FINAL WORDS FROM YOUR CLASS OF ’64 REUNION CREW…………………………
From Ed:
A great reunion weekend and I enjoyed being with all of you for a few days after 50 years. We did have a good time, didn't we.........I'm sure all of you are, as I am, proud to have our new Classmates, Joy and Mary, aboard with us. We have also voted to include Eileen Femenia as a Classmate. Eileen has worked tirelessly for our class and also for the entire Alumni Association. Welcome... to Eileen, Joy and Mary.
A Great Big Thank You to my fellow "Reunion Crew" for a job "Well Done". The reunion weekend is over but the "beat goes on”: Joy received a tip from Maryann DeMaso at the reunion and Joy found and spoke to "4.0" Wilson, AKA John F. Wilson, in Hawaii. "4.0" now has a Journal and a DVD. We are still missing William Boyle, Ken Coleman, Charles Holland and David Ward but "Sherlock Joy Kisling" will find them. The website has reunion pictures/videos as well as an updated email list for all classmates and Mary and Jack O'Neill will keep the website active until we meet again. We will meet again. The "Reunion Crew" has agreed that we should do another get together in 2019, our 55th. So, keep in touch so Joy does not have to track you down again........
From Mary:
First and foremost, thank you for making me an Honorary Classmate! It has been an honor and real pleasure to be your Webmaster for our 50th Reunion website. I ate, slept, and dreamed of the website, spending hours working on your photos, and wondering what the grown-up versions would be like. I became your classmate, your mother, and your friend throughout it all. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the Reunion, but through the photos some of you have already sent me, I am now able to partake of the good times.
Please share your anecdotes and any of the pictures/videos you took at the Reunion with me [email protected] and I will be happy to put them on our website, which we will keep active until the next reunion in 2019. Check it out! We have photos, videos, etc. already and more to come. Let's continue the fun you had at the Reunion through your memories and pictures on our new pages.
Last, but not least, thank you for my beautiful pearl pendant; it will always conjure up images of our Reunion, which I am now sharing with you through your photos and videos.
Joy said: While the above was early in our planning, we always counted on Jack’s sage advice. Then he took on the creation of the master list of attendees and spouses. He also handled the name badge project with all the photos. When I got a PDF bio….what the heck is a PDF??!! Jack was the one that put it in a format I could put in the Journal. He was also the one that created the In Memoriam section of the Journal. Thanks Jack, for making me look like I knew what I was doing too!
Steve Richter deserves our great thanks for the time and energy he spent collecting and editing photos and “burning” 74 DVDs for our Classmates which resulted in a donation of over $600 to our Class of 64 Cruise Endowment Fund. He is also responsible for some of the photos and the videos you will see when you go to the Website: maritimereunion64.weebly.com. Since the reunion, we have been unable to get his feet back on the ground!
From Joy:
I HAD SO MUCH FUN!!! I have to say thank you for many things. For everyone that came to the reunion from far and near to make it so special for all, for all the assistance from those that offered help through the weekend when it looked like we needed it, for making me an Honorary Classmate, for the beautiful bracelet which will make me think of our special weekend every time I wear it, for all the thanks from you all at the reunion, for the cards, emails, notes and flowers you have sent since, for our wonderful Reunion Crew, Ed, Rick, Jack, Mary, Jose, Steve, who worked tirelessly to see this happen, and most of all for Rick, who introduced me to Ft. Schuyler back in 1962, and was so one-focused on this reunion project, intending for everyone to have the time of their life. My love to all and my wishes for good health to bring you back in 2019.
From Eileen:
Thank you 'classmates' for the wonderful honor of becoming an official Honorary Member of the Hurricane Class of 1964.
I always felt 'honored' to be associated with the Class of 1964 and ALL the wonderful men and wives associated with the class. The dynamics of the class are special and many from the class have been such an enjoyable part of both Jose's and my life over the years, both professionally and personal, that it is a special honor to be asked to be an official Honorary Member of the Class. I accept this special gesture with much appreciation and love. Thank you and the committee for including me with two very special women, Joy Kisling and Mary O 'Neill who worked so hard to help deliver a wonderful and most memorable 50th reunion for this special class. I am truly honored. With love and appreciation and special thanks for the Pandora bracelet and the charm. I haven't taken it off since the reunion. Jose promises to fill it with special momentums.
Over the years I have had the pleasure of enjoying so many memorable times with alumni and have developed very special bonds with many of the alumni but this honor tops them all.
Warm wishes and appreciation to all from your 'classmate'.
From Mary: Jack was my “go to guy". My husband being a man of few words told me exactly nothing about Maritime until I undertook this assignment. So I became your Webmaster with a hundred questions a day, all of which Jack answered patiently….”Who was Capt. Spring, what kind of boat did Vince Barra take on his night-time raid at King's Point, what does MUG mean”...I mean I knew nothing. Jack was my tutor in this accelerated course on all things Maritime.
Jack spent days poring over the 1960-64 Porthole pages picking out text and photos pertaining to our classmates. There were so many that I stopped adding them to our site, but the link to all the issues is still online. Thanks, Jack, for making me look like I knew what I was doing!
From Jose:
True to form, the Class of 1964 blew past another goal. We set a goal of $25,000 for our Cruise Scholarship Endowment Fund and as of November 13, our class donations totaled $38,153, which included the funds left from the reunion and the DVD money. Thanks to all members of the class, especially to John Brennan who, in late September threw out the $5,000 match challenge for subsequent donations. We, through our generosity, will be supporting the values and traditions of the College that we so fondly reminisced about during our 50th reunion.
The following individuals have contributed to our Class Fund: If you contributed and you don’t see your name, please let me know. [email protected].

As was stated when we were in the reunion planning stages, we wanted to support the uniqueness of the Maritime College by assisting cadets defray part of the financial burden of the required cruises (Summer Sea Terms). We have succeeded in establishing a Cruise Scholarship Fund in the name of our Class. It will yield annual earnings, and be augmented with other FSMAA scholarship money to give at least one scholarship per year in the name of the Class of 1964. The actual amount of the scholarship will be determined by FSMAA Scholarship Committee (typically about $3,000).
As has been the practice of past classes, we encourage all members of the Class of 64 to continue supporting our Endowment by sending annual contributions to the FSMAA. Please make sure to appropriately identify your donation for the Class of 1964 Cruise Scholarship Endowment Fund. Let's set a goal to raise the corpus of our endowment to $100,000, by the time of our 55th anniversary of graduation and our next reunion. We are confident that our contributions will be appreciated by many young men and women as they follow in our Maritime College footsteps. Again, thanks for your very generous support. It was so great to get together again after so many years!

From Rick:
Thanks to all who came to the reunion. You folks were the reason we had such a great time! Let's not forget each other again! Mini reunions are now possible in your home areas as the Journal has all the information.
I am planning an annual contribution to the 64 Cruise Endowment Fund. We can allow other cadets to enjoy the experience we are having many years from now if we can help them get through. I figure if I forget during the year, I will have the fun we had in the month of October as a reminder. It is not too late
to contribute this year. Our policy is to not publicize any amounts contributed by our classmates. This is a private thing. John Brennan said his challenge and donation was okay to air publicly. If we all donate yearly, we could easily reach Jose's goal of $100,000 by our 55th. See the website at the Endowment section for information. Maggy at the FSMAA, will email you a receipt for the IRS for any donation is over $250.
Fort Schuyler Homecoming is scheduled for October 3, 2015, and October 1, 2016, if you should be in the neighborhood. Our next major event, the 55th, is scheduled for 2019. We should have the dates as early as 2017 for your planning purposes. Stay healthy and enjoy your senior years, you deserve it. Hope to see you all again soon.
